Our community in Fenham is a presence of sustained prayer in Newcastle. Each sister here has an individual ministry and we are committed to welcoming and the local community and parish - the kettle is always on! Our large meeting room hosts small groups for prayer, reflection, meetings and social gatherings.

Since 1850, we have had a community house in Roehampton. Today, Roehampton is still home to Duchesne House and some other sisters living nearby, along with Digby Stuart College, Sacred Heart Primary School.
We offer care to our sick and frail Sisters in Duchesne House, a small care home run by an experienced manager and her staff. The aim of the home is to enable the Sisters to live their lives as fully as possible until the end.
“It is surely an unsung miracle that a dozen or so people, each with her own struggle with mobility, failing faculties, frustrations and limitations and with enormously diverse temperaments and experiences, commit themselves to live in community, caring for each other, valuing the contribution of each one.
A staff of thirty, of different ages, nationalities and faith traditions bring their high level of professional skills, and equally important, their warmth of friendship, patience and love to their place of work. Certainly, sisters and staff form one community where people care for and are interested in each other. Celebrating different cultural seasons and feasts especially Diwali, Eid and of course, the feasts and seasons of the Christian year is a distinctive character of this community.”
‘I have a Ministry of Spiritual Direction, Retreat Direction and Supervision and have a developing coterie of Shut-Ins, who are isolated for numerous reasons and each one is grateful for regular phone calls from me, as they have very few contacts living near them and two have no family members. I feel very privileged to be able to be there for each of them daily.
We have several sisters in Bute Gardens, forming a small cluster, and with a variety of ministries, including retreats, spiritual direction and supporting elderly Irish people.
We aim to live simply, re-using, recycling and composting, buying local and Free Trade goods, and supporting one of the food banks set up by our sister Silvana, who works for Caritas Westminster. This has led to a local parish setting up a foodbank collection. We support friends with mental and physical health problems. We enjoy our small garden, choosing plants which attract birds and insects. We have worked abroad, so the internationality of our Society is important to us. We try in prayer and conversation to be open to local and international issues.

‘I work for Caritas Westminster, primarily with parishes and schools in West London, supporting them in their social outreach. I am also the Caritas lead for our Catholic Social Teaching programmes and our financial capability training, and part of our Comms team. I also run the Province’s social media and enjoy blogging and writing. And in my spare time I enjoy reading, photography, connecting with my Italian roots, and contact with friends here and throughout the world.'
Since 1992, in the East End of London, in an area of urban deprivation, the Boleyn Road community has been working hard to be good neighbours in a multi-cultural, multi-faith setting. We have also focused on helping refugees through local projects and initiatives.

The Llannerchwen Retreat Centre was founded in 1979 by Joan Scott, RSCJ, who spoke of the need ‘to offer to others an opportunity to spend time in solitude and silence.’
Through our ministry here, we aim to value the uniqueness of each individual in our outreach, to nurture an atmosphere of silence and to be present in an unobtrusive way. We are committed to adopting an environmentally sensitive approach to the management of our resources and to supporting Llannerchwen through our own prayer.

We have had a presence in Woking since 1993. Since moving here we have been involved locally with Traidcraft - a fair trade and development organisation working with producers from developing countries.
As local contacts for Traidcraft, we have been working with representatives from churches of many different denominations in the area though the pandemic has changed our way of working. As Key Contacts, we have been able to give support to other Fair Traders in Surrey and part of Hampshire. Pre-pandemic we held an annual fair trade day at Woldingham and also at Duchesne House, the home of our elderly sisters.

One of our sisters, Teresa Ryden RSCJ, lives in the Pondok Sophie Community, Jakarta, Indonesia, working as the District Treasurer, Secretary and Archivist.
‘The District of Indonesia currently has 4 communities composed primarily of young women who are at various stages of initial formation in the Society. They come from Indonesia and Timor Leste. Alongside them are a few finally professed RSCJ from a variety of countries.
Besides the ongoing work of formation, our communities have each tried to reach out to our neighbours who have been struggling financially during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Our principal way of doing this is by cooking and distributing approximately 100 meals each week.’
